Introduction
Myxosargus is a genus of New World Stratiomyinae of unsure subfamilial placement. 3 species are found in Canada and USA, 8 in the Neotropics, and M. fasciatus is found from Arizona and New Mexico south to Panama (Woodley 2001).
Characteristics
Myxosargus is distinguished from other Nearctic Prosopochrysini by the distinctive shape of the face in lateral view, the non-aristate antenna, and the unpatterned abdomen no more than two thirds as wide as long (James 1981).
