Introduction
The family Epimetopidae is a group of small to very small beetles and contains about thirty described species. The genus Epimetopus is exclusively New World, with the majority of species being Neotropical. (A couple of species are known from the Southwestern US.) The genus Eupotemus contains two Afrotropical species, and the genus Eumetopus contains a handful of Oriental species.
In the New World, species are most commonly collected in stream margins with gravel or sand substrate. Some species, however, prefer shallow, vegetated waters.
Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships
No studies have examined the relationships among members of this rarely collected family.
